Indiana University : MBA

MBA Life Sciences Fellowship

Businesses in the medical device, pharmaceutical, and health-care industries are increasingly looking for MBAs who have strong technical skills, decision-making ability, and an understanding of business. In response to this need, the Kelley School of Business and the IU College of Arts & Sciences, along with IU's Commitment to Excellence Program, have established a fellowship that will enable students with select undergraduate majors to enroll directly in the Kelley MBA Program immediately after graduation and without the usual full-time work experience requirement.

Who should consider applying?

This fellowship program is an opportunity for highly talented Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or BSES Environmental Biology students at IU-Bloomington to combine their science and Liberal Arts & Management Program (LAMP) or business minor coursework with a highly ranked MBA from the Kelley School of Business in order to bridge the gap between clinical/technical knowledge and established business needs.

Applicants are NOT required to have an undergraduate Life Science Scholarship to be eligible for the MBA Life Science Fellowship. Students wishing to work for a semester or year before starting the program must still apply during their senior year and request a deferral upon admission if they want consideration for the fellowship.

Upon admission to the Kelley MBA Program, MBA Life Science Fellows will receive full fellowships covering MBA tuition and required fees. They will be able to select any major and Academy within the MBA program. Historically, the Entrepreneurial Management Academy: Venture Development, Corporate Innovation, & Emerging Life Sciences has been the most applicable Academy for students wishing to pursue a career path in the health care and life sciences industry.

Applicants for the MBA Life Science Fellowship must:

  • Be a Senior at IU-Bloomington with a current undergraduate major in:
      – Biology
      – Microbiology
      – Biotechnology
      – Biochemistry
      – Chemistry or
      – Environmental Biology (SPEA BSES Life Science)
  • Complete the LAMP program or a business minor before undergraduate graduation
  • Complete an application for admission to the full time Kelley MBA program
  • Submit transcripts from all undergraduate institutions except Indiana University
  • Submit GMAT test scores (the GMAT can be taken any time during the senior year although we recommend students prepare well in advance. The GMAT must be taken before applying to the MBA program)
  • Submit two letters of recommendation
  • Interview for admission with a Kelley MBA Admissions Officer
